PROJECT OVERVIEW

"An automotive HVAC and structural bracket fabricator was running a 4-stage progressive die at 80 SPM, stamping 2.5 mm SAE 1010 hot-rolled steel at 3.5 million parts per year. Stripping the thick material demanded 12,000 daN of force, so the tool was built with sixteen 50 mm coil springs (ISO 10243 red series). At high speed the chrome-silicon coils ran hot, and fatigue fractures became a weekly event β€” every 150,000 to 200,000 cycles."

ENGINEERING NOTE

"Gas spring force follows F = P Γ— A: it comes from nitrogen pressure on the piston rod, not from metal fatigue, so the force profile does not decay over the life of the cylinder. Because the four cylinders share one manifold, any minor pressure loss is visible on the external panel and corrected before it can shift part quality. DieStrike machined the manifold block and mounting brackets in-house, with bore positions held to Β±0.002 mm."
